Proxy Falls in Central Oregon with late afternoon light shining through.

Deep within the forests near McKenzie Pass, Proxy Falls reveals itself as one of Oregon’s most enchanting natural treasures. Surrounded by towering trees and lush Pacific Northwest forest, the waterfall feels almost hidden from the outside world, a place where the landscape seems to exist on its own terms.

When I captured this scene, the afternoon was beginning to fade. The sun had moved low enough in the sky for its light to filter through the forest canopy, scattering delicate patches of illumination across the falling water and the stream below.

The shifting light transformed the scene. Bright fragments of sunlight danced across the rocks and water while the surrounding forest remained immersed in deep, cool shadows. For a fleeting moment, the waterfall seemed to glow from within. A perfect meeting of motion, light, and wilderness.

Proxy Falls is beautiful in any light. But on this afternoon, the forest offered something more fleeting: a brief glimpse of magic, revealed only when the sunlight found its way through the trees.
