Description
There is a fleeting moment at sunrise when the highest peaks awaken before the landscape below. On this morning in California’s Eastern Sierra, the first light reached Mount Whitney while the surrounding mountains remained in shadow. For this image, color felt almost unnecessary. Black and white allowed light and shadow to become the story, with bright granite emerging from darkness as deep shadows revealed the rugged textures of the mountain. Within minutes, the scene would completely change. But for one brief moment, Mount Whitney stood between darkness and daylight, defined by the beautiful simplicity of first light and shadow.
