Lewis River Falls

By September, many of the rivers and waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest have begun to settle into their late-summer rhythm.

But in this year, Lower Lewis River Falls still has plenty of life.

Deep within the forests of southern Washington, the Lewis River spreads across a broad wall of volcanic rock before cascading into the clear pools below. Even late in the season, a healthy flow of water moves across the falls, creating a beautiful contrast against the dark rock and dense evergreen forest surrounding the river.

There is something timeless about this place.

Water has been carving its way through this landscape for generations, shaping the rock and creating one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the Pacific Northwest.

September brings its own character to the scene. The powerful flows of spring have passed, the forest has settled into the final days of summer, and the river continues steadily downstream beneath the trees.

Standing along its banks, surrounded by forest and the constant sound of falling water, the outside world feels remarkably far away.

A quiet forest.
