Some places are easy to reach.

Others require a little more intention.

Burney Falls had been on my list for years. Tucked away in Northern California and well beyond the usual routes I travel, it was never the most convenient destination to include in an itinerary. But during a recent journey through the Eastern Sierra, I decided to take the detour.

It was a decision I would not regret.

By the time I arrived, the afternoon light was beginning to soften. Sunbeams filtered through the surrounding forest, casting delicate rays across the falling water and illuminating the mist rising from the falls. The scene felt almost otherworldly. Quiet, luminous, and far more beautiful than I had imagined.

Standing there, I understood why this place had remained on my list for so long.

Some destinations require extra miles, a change of plans, and the willingness to take the road less traveled.

But every once in a while, the detour becomes the destination.

Burney Falls was absolutely worth the journey.
