There are places that make you forget where you are.

Hidden along the southern Oregon coast near Brookings, Secret Beach is one of them.

As the sun began to descend toward the Pacific, the fading light illuminated a coastline of towering sea stacks, rugged cliffs, and secluded stretches of sand. Waves moved between the ancient rock formations while warm evening light reached across the horizon, transforming an already dramatic landscape into something almost otherworldly.

Standing there, it was difficult to believe this was still Oregon.

The combination of wild coastline, hidden coves, and massive rocks rising from the Pacific felt more like a distant shore in another country than a place tucked away along the edge of the Pacific Northwest.

Perhaps that is part of what makes exploring so rewarding. Every once in a while, you discover a place that completely changes your perception of somewhere you thought you already knew.

On this evening, Secret Beach felt less like a destination along the Oregon coast, and more like discovering an entirely different world.
